Recruiting LGBTQ+ foster carers
The purpose of this Practice Note is to support and strengthen the recruitment of LGBTQ+ foster carers by guiding fostering services towards approaches that are inclusive, equitable and affirming. Too often, LGBTQ+ applicants experience unnecessary scrutiny or outdated assumptions, rather than acknowledgement of the unique strengths they bring. This resource encourages social workers to reframe how they engage with prospective carers, recognising resilience, openness and lived experience as vital assets in creating safe and nurturing homes. It is essential that applicants who identify as LGTBT+ feel understood, respected, included and nurtured at every stage of their fostering journey.
